The Joseph Binder Award (JBA), organized by designaustria, is one of the more prestigious international competitions for graphic design and illustration, alongside a dedicated Design Fiction category for speculative work. The 17th edition, themed 'Under Pressure,' explores challenges shaping the creative industry, from AI to economic uncertainty. Winners are announced at a Symposium and Award Show in Vienna, and honored designers/illustrators are celebrated in a dedicated exhibition.

First entry €105 regular / €79 members / €55 students; each further entry €79 / €59 / €45 (excl. 20% VAT); 10% early-bird discount until 25 September 2026; nominated entries pay a €360 catalogue/exhibition fee (waived for Design Fiction)

Award / prize

Gold, Silver and Bronze trophies plus up to three distinctions in Graphic Design and Illustration; Design Fiction awards cash prizes totalling €6,000 to up to five projects; the Henry Steiner Prize honors a project that fosters dialogue between cultural perspectives

Submission format

Online registration form per entry: a short description (max. 1,000 characters) plus printable images and/or videos (mp4/flv/mov), max. 10 files; students add a confirmation of studies. Entries nominated by the jury are notified in December 2026 and then submitted physically for the second round.
