Overview

AwardWatch is a directory of design competition deadlines. This policy explains what data is processed when you visit the site, and on what legal basis, in line with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the German Telecommunications and Telemedia Data Protection Act (TTDSG).

AwardWatch does not use cookies, does not require a login, and does not run advertising or third-party tracking scripts.

Hosting (Vercel)

This site is hosted by Vercel Inc., 340 S Lemon Ave #4133, Walnut, CA 91789, USA. When you visit the site, Vercel's infrastructure automatically processes technical data in server logs — such as IP address, browser type, referring page, and timestamp — to deliver the site and keep it secure. This processing is necessary for the operation of the site (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, legitimate interest in stable and secure delivery). Where data is transferred to the US, Vercel commits to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses as a transfer safeguard.

Analytics

AwardWatch uses Vercel Web Analytics to understand aggregate traffic (e.g. page views). This service is cookie-free: visitors are identified only via a hash derived from the incoming request, no persistent or cross-site identifier is stored, and the underlying session data is discarded after 24 hours. No personal profile is built and no data is shared with third parties for advertising. Because no cookies or comparable storage are used, this does not require your consent under § 25 TTDSG; it is processed on the basis of our legitimate interest in understanding site usage (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

You can opt out of analytics on this device by visiting the site with ?va=offappended to the URL; this preference is stored only in your browser's local storage and is never transmitted to us.

Newsletter (Brevo)

If you subscribe to the newsletter, your email address is processed by Brevo (Sendinblue GmbH / Brevo SAS, 106 boulevard Haussmann, 75008 Paris, France) on our behalf under a data processing agreement pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR. Data is stored on servers within the European Union.

Your address is added to the list as soon as you submit the form. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), given by ticking the consent box on the signup form.

To be able to demonstrate that consent was given, as we are required to under Art. 7(1) GDPR, we store the date and time of your signup, the IP address it was submitted from, and a reference to the version of the consent wording you agreed to. This is kept alongside your address for as long as you are subscribed, and for a further three years after you unsubscribe (the standard limitation period under § 195 BGB), on the basis of our legitimate interest in defending against claims (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

You can withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future — every email contains an unsubscribe link, or you can simply write to us. When you unsubscribe, your address is not deleted but moved to a suppression list, so that we can be sure not to contact you again. If you would prefer your data to be erased entirely instead, write to us and we will do that.

Brevo evaluates deliveries in aggregate (e.g. delivery and bounce rates) to operate and secure the service. No profile is built for advertising purposes and your address is not passed on to third parties.

Newsletter tracking

Our newsletters contain a tracking pixel, a small image file retrieved from the servers of our email service provider Brevo when the email is opened. This records the time of retrieval along with technical information such as IP address and email client. Links contained in the newsletter are set up so that the link clicked is recorded.

This data is evaluated in pseudonymised form only and is used to tailor the newsletter content to recipients' interests. It is not combined with other personal data.

The legal basis is your consent under Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and § 25(1) TDDDG. You can withdraw this consent at any time by unsubscribing via the link in every email. Opting out of tracking alone is not technically possible; withdrawal therefore also ends your newsletter subscription.

Fonts

Typefaces are self-hosted: font files are bundled with the site at build time and served from this domain. No request is made to Google Fonts or any other font provider at runtime, so no data about your visit is shared with a font provider.

Links to third-party sites

Competition listings link to the official registration pages of third-party organizers. Once you follow such a link, that site's own privacy policy applies; we have no control over and no responsibility for their data processing.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to request access to, rectification, or erasure of your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, and to data portability. Unless you have subscribed to the newsletter, this site collects no personal data beyond anonymized, aggregated analytics and standard hosting logs, so there is typically nothing tied to you individually to access or erase. If you are a subscriber, your address and signup record are — and you can have them at any time by writing to hello@dennishess.de. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, in particular in the German state where you reside, work, or where the alleged infringement occurred.
