2027 Steel Design Student Competition

Administered by the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture and sponsored by the American Institute of Steel Construction, this annual competition asks undergraduate and graduate architecture students to explore design with steel. Category I is a Community Youth Center that becomes an integral part of its neighborhood; Category II is open, letting students choose their own site and program (except community or recreational centers). Every project must use steel as the primary structural material and include at least one space requiring a long-span steel structure. It is open to students and teams of up to five from ACSA full, candidate and affiliate member schools in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, and a faculty sponsor must enroll entrants. Registration closes on 7 April 2027 and submissions are due on 2 June 2027; winners are announced in fall 2027.

$20,000 total across two categories. In each category: 1st place $4,000 to students and $1,500 to faculty sponsor, 2nd $2,000 and $1,000, 3rd $1,000 and $500
